A comprehensive signage strategy and design were developed using Central Park as the prototype. The objective was to clearly rationalize visual and written information related to access, direction, and the location of park features and trails for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. The system was designed to be recognizable, flexible, cost-effective, and easy to maintain, while reducing existing sign clutter.

The process began with a detailed audit of the existing signage program, followed by observations and recommendations for improvement. A thorough traffic flow assessment identified key decision points for directional signage based on prioritized park amenities. The resulting design options reflect the spirit of the park environment—a welcoming landscape of natural beauty that offers a year-round escape—while maintaining a consistent brand identity. Durable materials, changeable components, and thoughtful construction techniques allow the facilities maintenance team to produce select elements internally, supporting efficient maintenance and long-term cost management.
