An extensive audit was undertaken, analyzing the zoo’s wayfinding strengths and weaknesses, of the current facility requirements and future phased in expansion. Colour coding and animal face illustrations, based on their brand approach, were designed as a visual identifier to the different zones of the zoo.
BOND assisted in the selection of animals to represent the zones at the Edmonton Valley Zoo during the signage and wayfinding development. An illustrative graphic was recommended for the wayfinding signage during the design phase and has become an integral part of the signage vocabulary. The illustrations were created by the BOND team to support the brand, focusing on the eyes of the animals. As a suite of illustrations were created, BOND recommended that these be used in marketing and merchandising materials. The illustrations continue to be implemented as the Zoo grows and develops.
